ABOUT OUR BUSINESS

Whilst the vast majority of craft brewers will sell their beer in local and sometimes national markets, there are few who could claim to be strong on the international stage. From the outset back in 2003 we saw the opportunity that building our brand internationally presented us with, and in 2019 30% of our volumes and 28% of our turnover was generated by our international business. Our home market, the UK, has also shown strong growth, delivering 14% volume growth and 14% turnover growth last year.

 This performance has been fuelled by the impressive growth of Innis & Gunn Lager, the largest and most valuable craft beer in Scotland, and sustained marketing investment behind our brand proposition Be You. Stay Original.

This unique proposition of authenticity and originality inspires an independent, self-confident and progressive attitude to life, the attitude of a true original. It has allowed us to meaningfully connect with consumers and become the UK’s most recommended beer brand.

OPPORTUNITY

DIRECTOR OF MARKETING

Reporting to the Commercial Director, this role will take ownership of all marketing and PR activity for the business in the UK and Internationally. The Director of Marketing will lead and develop the marketing team to deliver brand strategy for the key trading channels across core markets including, the On & Off trade, ecommerce/digital and the valuable High Street Retail business. The Director of Marketing will have full responsibility for budget spend (which is due to double in size over the next year) and as a member of the Exec Team, will contribute to influencing and shaping the wider business strategy.

With flexible home/remote-working – but with a minimum of 2 days p/w spent in Edinburgh – the Director of Marketing will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of long-term and annual brand strategies through a redeveloped Brand Positioning; implementing agreed brand strategies and building capability for a Digital First Marketing approach. The successful candidate will develop and adopt a suitable leadership style – directing, empowering, coaching and motivating – to suit rapidly changing market conditions and working environments.  

To be considered, you will have a proven track record in marketing and brand leadership from within premium alcoholic drinks. With a strong preference for international/export brand management, you will have evidence of operating effectively at a strategic and board level, both as a curator and implementor of strategies. Ideally with both blue chip and SME exposure, you will have demonstrable leadership experience with the ability to inspire, develop and motivate high-performance (remote) teams. A visionary and not afraid to challenge the status quo and to drive change, you will be an expert in cutting edge digital marketing to get more people thinking, ‘This sounds like a beer I should try… I need to buy Innis & Gunn beer… I need to take a look at their website’.

You will be a natural entrepreneur who can converse with business leaders, founders and investors with ease and authority.

Head of Marketing for Vodka, Gin and RTDs

Denholm is delighted to be working in partnership with Loch Lomond Group to recruit a passionate, creative and strategically-minded marketing professional to the team. In this newly created role, the Head of Marketing for Vodka, Gin and RTDs will take full ownership for defining the direction the clear spirit brands take.

The role will offer the perfect balance of brand and trade marketing activities. Working with a category leading brand, you will have strong consumer branding knowledge which will allow to translate these brand activations into engaging brand stories and will help recruit the target audience into the brand halo. A strong commercial marketer, you will work with the Sales team to execute key marketing initiatives, ensuring that all brand executions produce a strong ROI through the P&L.

Head of Whisky Marketing

Denholm are delighted to be working exclusively with Loch Lomond Group; one of the most exciting and fast-growing global spirits companies in the country. To assist with their growth ambitions, they are looking to recruit a commercially astute and strategic marketer to join their team in a newly created role, as Head of Whisky Marketing.

Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, the Head of Whisky will create and drive a comprehensive and strategic brand plan including positioning, range architecture and pricing strategy to allow delivery of the business growth ambitions. You will have a background of working with premium spirits and be confident in launching NPD and range extensions across the global marketplace, ensuring alignment to the brand values through promotional toolkits. In addition to a background in brand-building, with the consumer at the heart of global activations, you will have experience of leading brand communications across all platforms including digital, sponsorship, PR and Events.

The Head of Whisky will be a visionary thinker and will bring passion and enthusiasm to the role. You will have the ability to nurture and lead a high performing team to ensure that all strategic plans are translated into commercially successful activations.
