INSIDER: Recruiter Denholm sees revenues rise on sector growth

New business in financial services, food and drink and tech has helped Scottish marketing recruitment specialist Denholm Associates grow revenues 13 per cent in the first half of the year.

The Edinburgh-based firm announced three new appointments and said it had also invested heavily in systems related to the EU’s new general data protection regulation. In February, Denholm also announced a partnership with compliance software specialist Amiqus.

“As well as high volume activity in specialist marketing recruitment, we’ve seen a big increase in commercial, marketing and sales assignments at board level,” said chief executive and founding director Nicki Denholm.

“In terms of industry segments, we’ve seen an uptick in both traditional financial services and FinTech, food and drink brands and the tech startup sector. It’s also notable that more clients are asking us to widen the net and look for candidates outwith the UK – while the perfect candidate could be in Stirling, they could also be in Shoreditch, Stockholm or San Francisco.”

The firm said Head of Agency Jackie Anderson and Head of Glasgow Fiona Todd had both been appointed to the Denholm Board, while Amanda Kho had joined Denholm’s Glasgow office.

“We are thrilled to now have Jackie and Fiona and their considerable experience and know-how on the board as we plan our next phase of growth,” said chairman John Denholm, who in 1984 co-founded Scottish creative agency Leith Agency, which is best known for its Irn-Bru adverts. “GDPR has been a big deal for us this year and rightly so because data protection is absolutely fundamental in the recruitment industry and we’re confident we now have best-of-class systems in place.”

Founded in 2002, Denholm’s client base includes Standard Life, VisitScotland, The R&A, Edrington Beam Suntory, Baxters and Skyscanner. Denholm opened a Glasgow office in 2017, continued to roll out its ‘BrandBox’ online employer brand tool, announced a partnership with fellow headhunting firm McGregor Bond and launched Inside Out, a standalone employer brand agency.
