Tell us something we wouldn't see on your CV
When I was 18, I spent a month in Malawi doing a mix of trekking, Safari and charity work. I travelled on some of the sketchiest transport imaginable, and crossed over a “bridge” which was two planks of wood moved to suit the vehicle. I also saw a crocodile almost swallow a stork whole and I traded my swim shorts for a lovely hand carved wooden coaster set.
What’s something that recently made you smile?
I am a first time dad to a wee girl called Niamh! I could probably tell you hundreds of things she has done to make me smile but just being a dad to such a beautiful and happy girl puts a wee smile on my face any time I think about it.
Tell us your top three dinner party guests and why (you can have anyone you want – dead or alive!)
Steven Graham – I don’t think anyone has been in as many top UK TV/Film series in recent years. Just thinking about who he has worked with and the stories he could tell you makes me wish this was happening! Also, the guy just seems like the kind of guy you’d want to go out with after.
Robin Williams – Who wouldn’t want a genie? A night of laughter and just listening to an absolute legend, need I say anymore…?
Freddie Mercury – I would take an hour out the night to just let him sing, and another hour for uninterrupted stories, an icon I wish I had seen live.
What is your 15 minutes of fame?
I once spent three months in the Bornean rainforest doing charity work with Raleigh International, installing gravity water systems and generally having the time of my life. Whilst there we met Bill Bailey who was filming a documentary. But then, even more crazily, I was picked for a post expedition team to do what we initially thought was another manual project… turns out we were the Raleigh delegation to welcome the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
Why did you join Denholm?
I knew about Denholm having previously worked with both Andy MacEwan and Scott Caithness and both had nothing but positive things to say about the business and the people behind it. Andy approached me about a role in his team and to be honest, my mind was pretty much made up at that point!
I then sat down and met with Nicki and I was sold. It already felt like home and I hadn’t even been offered the role. Thankfully I was!
I love that there is such a clear focus on value-driven recruitment, which is truly lived and breathed every day by the business. Delivery is important but the journey is even more!
