Denholm Associates is proud to partner with a pioneering business at the forefront of the UK’s clean energy revolution. Our client is a market leader in energy flexibility, optimising flexible power assets such as battery storage and gas peaking plants to support the national electricity system and accelerate decarbonisation.
From a vibrant Edinburgh office, this expert team works across real-time energy markets-maximising commercial returns for clients while enabling a greener grid. Due to sustained growth and exciting market developments, we are looking for an experienced Business Development Manager to focus on front-of-meter energy flexibility opportunities.
About the Role:
In this commercially focused role, you’ll work within a dynamic Sales, Marketing, and Account Management team to identify, cultivate, and convert new opportunities among asset owners and developers of grid-scale power assets.
You’ll be responsible for building and managing your own pipeline-targeting owners of battery energy storage systems (BESS), co-located renewables/BESS projects, and gas peaking plants-and representing our client’s Route to Market (RTM) offering across wholesale energy trading, the Balancing Mechanism, and ancillary services.
This is a consultative sales role, ideally suited to someone with sector experience and the drive to succeed in a mission-led, commercially sharp environment. Full training will be provided on our client’s service offering and evolving energy markets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Promote and sell the company’s market-leading Route to Market services to front-of-meter asset owners.
- Engage prospects in consultative sales conversations, supported by internal experts across trading, engineering, operations, and data science.
- Lead the response to RFPs and ITTs, contributing to high-quality sales collateral and proposals.
- Own and manage your sales pipeline using HubSpot CRM, from initial engagement to contract negotiation.
- Maintain strong market awareness and provide insights into commercial opportunities and customer needs.
- Act as an ambassador for our client’s brand, maintaining its premium position in the energy flexibility market.
What You’ll Bring:
Essential:
- Strong understanding of UK energy markets and the commercial drivers for battery storage, peaking plant, and related technologies.
- Proven experience in consultative B2B sales, with the ability to understand and explain technical offerings.
- Drive, initiative, and enthusiasm to work autonomously and collaboratively in a fast-evolving market.
- Excellent commercial writing, proposal development, and negotiation skills.
- Comfortable working in cross-functional teams and liaising with technical and commercial colleagues.
- IT proficiency and experience using CRM systems; UK driving licence and right to work in the UK.
Desirable:
- Degree in Business, Economics, Engineering or similar.
- Hands-on experience with battery optimisation or renewable energy project development.
What’s on Offer:
📍 Edinburgh-based hybrid working – minimum two days per week in the office
✈️ Occasional travel – customer visits, trade shows, and industry events
Benefits include:
- Competitive salary (discussed on application)
- 30 days’ annual leave (plus 4 company-recognised public holidays)
- 4x base salary life cover
- Pension scheme with 7% employer contribution (with 4% employee contribution after 3 months)
