Mackie’s real dairy ice cream is made with natural goodness of fresh milk and cream, produced on the family farm in Aberdeenshire.
Westertown Farm, where the Mackie family have been farming since 1912, is home to the business and is where all Mackie’s ice cream and chocolate is made. Mackie’s has built a hugely loyal following across Scotland, where it holds the top-spot in premium bulk ice cream, commanding over 20% market share. Mackie’s is one of the fastest growing Scottish food brands and is the fifth biggest ice cream brand in the UK.
Mackie’s has shown consistently strong growth over the past decade, doubling its turnover. The past two years in particular have seen it out-perform the growth (value and volume) of competitors, and achieve multiple significant national listings. Mackie’s range has never been more readily available across the UK. Its record UK market share comes as new listings combine with large marketing campaigns. In the past year, Mackie’s ran campaigns across ITV1, ITVx, STV, digital, social, audio and print. The increased brand-awareness and product availability has seen new consumers eager to buy into the brand (+11% penetration last financial year).
Mackie’s sights are firmly set on continuing to grow its market share across the UK. Mackie’s high-quality product range, strong brand and vertical integration stand it in good stead to continue to grow and meet its ambitious plans.
Remote-based
The National Account Manager will oversee and develop an established portfolio of key accounts across the OOH & Convenience channels, primarily in central Scotland.
Reporting to the Head of Sales with remote/flexible working, the National Account Manager has responsibility for creating and delivering a strategy of profitable growth with each customer whilst developing Mackie’s brand awareness within the UK through effective market navigation.
To be considered, you will have a proven track record in delivering strong commercial results across branded FMCG national account management. Ideally with some exposure to the OOH/Convenience channels, you will have evidence of developing and executing sales strategy and delivering sustained growth within multiple product categories.
Mackie’s generates twice as much energy as it uses and aims to become self-sufficient in renewable energy. Four large wind turbines, a 10-acre solar panel and a recently commissioned low-carbon refrigeration system have all taken the business closer to its goal of renewable self-sufficiency.
Ice cream is a fun product and an indulgent treat – so we think we should aim to have fun making it. Mackie’s business owes its success to the people working here – a loyal, flexible and energetic workforce who work hard in many ways to keep us going, making ice cream and chocolate, to grow the business, adapt to change and meet the variety of challenges which occur daily.
We set ourselves some “Big Hairy Audacious Goals” (known as big hairies) along with smaller annual targets – some of which are agreed “celebration points” so that their achievement is marked with a variety of staff gifts or activities. We are a Real National Living wage employer and also share a performance related bonus.
If you would like any information about this opportunity with Mackie’s, please get in touch with Denholm Associates today. Thank you.

As well as working in close collaboration with our clients, and the online marketplaces, we are active members of groups that have been established to combat illicit trade. These include the Scottish Anti-Illicit Trade Group, the European Intellectual Property Office, The Scottish Business Resilience Centre, the Anti-Counterfeiting Group, and the China Britain Business Council. Members of our senior management sit on the boards of ACID (Anti-Copying in Design), the Scottish Ministerial Trade Board, and the European Union Intellectual Property Office’s Observatory Panel for SMEs, amongst others.
Each team member nominates good causes or charities that are supported on both an individual and corporate basis. Wherever possible, we support the employee’s involvement whether through time or fundraising events.
We deliver purpose-driven work from an extremely welcoming environment near the City Centre. We actively encourage the responsible use of resources, from using public transport to reuse, recycling, and, of course, a minimal impact office environment. We have benefited from the advice of the Energy Saving Trust and Resource Efficient Scotland. Our waste contractor also provides us with a monthly report on volumes and types of material and the carbon emissions avoided through recycling.
Over 80% of our employees can walk or cycle to The Lair and, pre-pandemic, 10% were using public transport as their normal daily commuting mode. Without doubt, online meetings will replace considerable miles, going forward, saving resources, time and energy. Where possible, when possible, the train remains our preferred option.
Our people are our most important asset, and their mental well-being and happiness are core to our success. We love our diverse workforce, actively embrace flexible working (even pre-pandemic!) and encourage a healthy work-life balance. We have been recognised as one of the most diverse SME workplaces in the UK and are holders of the Scottish Business Pledge which exists to promote a fairer Scotland. We have also just been included in the 2021 Culture Leaders Top 25 – an accolade of which we are very proud!
We are a fully inclusive and nurturing employer and, despite being in tech, the majority of our team are women, leading to accolades in the Computing Magazine Women in IT Awards and the Amazon Growing Business Awards. We currently represent 15 nationalities and speak 20 languages. Age is no barrier, and we recruit for attitude, providing and encouraging appropriate learning and training for each and every role.
We are also proud members of IP Inclusive, a network of professionals working to make the intellectual property industry more diverse.
Our aim is to combat illicit online trade by identifying and removing counterfeits for sale. Counterfeits not only damage brands, their reputations, and revenues, but can cause significant harm to the end customer – whether as a fake toy or a fake medicine – and the consequences can be life threatening.
Counterfeiting is a significant economic and social issue.
The OECD reports that counterfeit and fake goods make up more than 3.3% of the world’s global trade. Those involved in the trade of counterfeits have been linked to people trafficking, prostitution, and drug dealing.
As such, reducing illicit trade is about much more than brand protection but also about human rights, safety, and social equity.
And this is what we do, every day.
