In a competitive and fast-moving industry, Macphie has struck a wonderful balance by being at the cutting edge of food ingredient technology and innovation while retaining our identity as a family-orientated business with a strong history of quality, creativity, integrity, and employee-centric values.
The business has grown due to our customers recognising that we bring food ingredient solutions to a demanding marketplace. The end consumer wants great quality food, that is consistent, has extended shelf life, and tastes great – we aim to provide just that across the world.
Our employees are part of the family, that is not a cliched statement, we mean it. Our size and shape mean that no one gets lost in Macphie and everyone has an integral part to play in making Macphie a leader in the food ingredients business.
At Macphie, we offer a wider range of development opportunities. The scale and shape of our business offer excellent prospects for colleagues to develop their skills and take advantage of new roles across the business, either through lateral or promotional opportunities.
Technical development and behavioural and managerial development are key elements of working at Macphie. Most importantly though with the dynamic nature of our portfolio, ‘change’ is ever-present and developing within role will be ever-present also.
Food.
We think about it. We breathe it. And we live it.
Macphie is an internationally renowned family ingredient manufacturer, producing a wide range of products across our core categories of sauce, bakery and ice cream inclusions, as well as offering plant-based and gluten-free options. As a partner to some of the world’s leading food brands, we’re dedicated to turning ideas and creativity into practical solutions.
Inspired by a pioneering spirit and a will to be something completely different, Macphie has grown to be a truly unique international family ingredient business — a beacon of invention on a bedrock of values.
Ours is no traditional business.
As a partner to some of the world’s leading food brands, we’re dedicated to turning ideas and creativity into practical solutions.
No matter your challenge, we rise to it.
It is the ‘we’ that we care so deeply about. So many people have played significant roles in our past and our present day, we would not exist were it not for them.
Colleagues, friends, neighbours. Our families.
And our commitment to care includes our surrounding environment. We’re on a continuous journey of achieving sustainability, wherever we can.
That journey of responsible ownership is one we will always honour as we grow and evolve and continue to offer innovation that breaks down barriers.
Our legacy.
When it comes down to it, we’re a food company. Creating, crafting, producing, supplying (and consuming!) it.
We think about it. We breathe it. And we live it.
Our passion. Our motivator. Our obsession.
It is not simply ‘a’ family business, it is ‘our’ family business. We all have ownership and we must understand our role in achieving the bigger picture. We attack each day with energy and passion because teamwork makes the dream work.
Since our origins we’ve stood out in the industry because of our innovation, imagination and invention. It’s what makes us different, it’s why customers come to us. The possibilities are only defined by us so challenge the norm, and break down barriers.
We’re relied on by one another and customers, to do what we say, when we say we’re going to do it. Remember, being trusted and dependable never goes out of fashion.
Quality of our products, our processes, our support, everything we do should be underpinned by this. Let it show at every opportunity, go that extra mile and add a little bit more value.
Our approach, our processes, and our thinking have always been based on the principles of sustainability. We want to make a positive impact on both our local and wider environment, both now and in the future.

As well as working in close collaboration with our clients, and the online marketplaces, we are active members of groups that have been established to combat illicit trade. These include the Scottish Anti-Illicit Trade Group, the European Intellectual Property Office, The Scottish Business Resilience Centre, the Anti-Counterfeiting Group, and the China Britain Business Council. Members of our senior management sit on the boards of ACID (Anti-Copying in Design), the Scottish Ministerial Trade Board, and the European Union Intellectual Property Office’s Observatory Panel for SMEs, amongst others.
Each team member nominates good causes or charities that are supported on both an individual and corporate basis. Wherever possible, we support the employee’s involvement whether through time or fundraising events.
We deliver purpose-driven work from an extremely welcoming environment near the City Centre. We actively encourage the responsible use of resources, from using public transport to reuse, recycling, and, of course, a minimal impact office environment. We have benefited from the advice of the Energy Saving Trust and Resource Efficient Scotland. Our waste contractor also provides us with a monthly report on volumes and types of material and the carbon emissions avoided through recycling.
Over 80% of our employees can walk or cycle to The Lair and, pre-pandemic, 10% were using public transport as their normal daily commuting mode. Without doubt, online meetings will replace considerable miles, going forward, saving resources, time and energy. Where possible, when possible, the train remains our preferred option.
Our people are our most important asset, and their mental well-being and happiness are core to our success. We love our diverse workforce, actively embrace flexible working (even pre-pandemic!) and encourage a healthy work-life balance. We have been recognised as one of the most diverse SME workplaces in the UK and are holders of the Scottish Business Pledge which exists to promote a fairer Scotland. We have also just been included in the 2021 Culture Leaders Top 25 – an accolade of which we are very proud!
We are a fully inclusive and nurturing employer and, despite being in tech, the majority of our team are women, leading to accolades in the Computing Magazine Women in IT Awards and the Amazon Growing Business Awards. We currently represent 15 nationalities and speak 20 languages. Age is no barrier, and we recruit for attitude, providing and encouraging appropriate learning and training for each and every role.
We are also proud members of IP Inclusive, a network of professionals working to make the intellectual property industry more diverse.
Our aim is to combat illicit online trade by identifying and removing counterfeits for sale. Counterfeits not only damage brands, their reputations, and revenues, but can cause significant harm to the end customer – whether as a fake toy or a fake medicine – and the consequences can be life threatening.
Counterfeiting is a significant economic and social issue.
The OECD reports that counterfeit and fake goods make up more than 3.3% of the world’s global trade. Those involved in the trade of counterfeits have been linked to people trafficking, prostitution, and drug dealing.
As such, reducing illicit trade is about much more than brand protection but also about human rights, safety, and social equity.
And this is what we do, every day.
