Sales Manager (SME)

Job Ref: 11024

The opportunity you've been waiting for

This is a Sales Manager role with real scope: a team of outbound sales professionals, a seat at the table with senior stakeholders, and the autonomy to build campaigns that actually move the needle.

How you'll make your mark

You'll own acquisition and retention for the SME book, using CRM data and market intelligence to spot opportunities before competitors do. You will take ownership of a high-performing acquisition and retention team, driving customer growth, reducing churn and delivering outstanding commercial results. That's the brief.

Key deliverables

  • Lead, coach and develop a team of outbound sales professionals, building a culture that consistently hits target.
  • Build customer-save strategies and renewal campaigns that measurably reduce churn.
  • Use CRM and sales data to identify revenue opportunities and shape acquisition campaigns.
  • Present commercial offers and sales initiatives to senior stakeholders.
  • Report performance against KPIs and use the insight to sharpen what comes next.
  • Work with service and operations teams so customers experience one joined-up business.

What you bring

  • Experience leading outbound sales, retention or account renewal teams, with a track record of hitting targets.
  • Proven coaching and people management experience.
  • Comfort analysing customer and sales data to find the angle others miss.
  • Confident stakeholder management, with the judgement to handle escalations directly.
  • Strong Excel skills and experience with CRM platforms, ideally Salesforce.
  • A background in utilities, telecoms, energy, financial services or another subscription-based market is a plus.

What's in it for you

Salary up to £41,000, plus a performance-related bonus linked to individual and company results. This is a Monday to Friday role based in Edinburgh, with no weekend or shift work.

  • 31 days annual leave plus six bank holidays.
  • Pension scheme with employer contributions of up to 10%.
  • Enhanced maternity and adoption leave.
  • 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme and Mental Health First Aiders.
  • Retail discounts and cashback through the colleague benefits platform.
  • Cycle to Work scheme and onsite gym facilities where available.
  • Ongoing learning and development support to build your case for the next step up.

A bit more about the business

This is a long-established UK organisation in the utilities and business services sector, serving SME customers at scale. Retention has become as commercially important as acquisition, and this role exists to align both functions so they reinforce each other.

Denholm's take

Most Sales Manager briefs ask for someone who can win new business. This one asks for someone who can do that and protect what's already been won, which is the harder and more interesting version of the job.
