Denholm Associates

Product Owner

Job Ref: 11084

The opportunity you've been waiting for

Britain's electricity system is being rebuilt in real time. Batteries, generators and flexible commercial demand are becoming the tools that keep the grid balanced, and someone needs to own the platform that makes it all work.

Flexitricity has spent years proving what flexible energy can do. Now, backed by Drax and moving into its next phase of growth, it needs a Product Owner to take charge of two product streams that sit right at the centre of the business: the Virtual Power Plant platform that operates the assets, and the Customer Success journey that keeps Energy Partners onboard, enabled and engaged.

This is a role with real scope. You'll set the roadmap, own the backlog and shape how the business delivers value to both its markets and its customers.

How you'll make your mark

Reporting to the Product Director, you'll own the product vision, roadmap and delivery outcomes across VPP and Customer Success. That means backlog prioritisation, sprint planning and clear acceptance criteria, but it also means translating regulatory complexity, commercial pressure and technical constraint into decisions that delivery teams can act on.

Key deliverables

  • Set and maintain the product roadmap for VPP and Customer Success, tied to revenue, efficiency and Energy Partner experience.
  • Own backlog refinement, sprint planning, reviews and retrospectives, giving delivery teams clarity on business value.
  • Build a streamlined, compliant Energy Partner journey across onboarding, asset enablement, settlement and analytics.
  • Work across Engineering, Commercial, IT, Data and Operations to turn requirements into deliverables that actually ship.
  • Maintain governance and reporting that gives clear visibility of progress, risk and value delivered.
  • Support new products and features as they move from delivery into business-as-usual operation.

What you bring

  • At least three years in the energy sector or another complex, regulated industry.
  • A track record in product ownership or product delivery, with a solid grasp of Agile, Scrum or PRINCE2 in practice.
  • Confidence working between technical and commercial teams, and the judgement to prioritise when everyone thinks their initiative should be first.
  • Experience producing clear technical and operational documentation that delivery teams can actually use.
  • The ability to hold your ground with senior stakeholders when the data says something different to the opinion in the room.

What's in it for you

The salary range is £48,000 - £52,000 plus bonus structure and a benefits package to be confirmed. Based in central Edinburgh, with flexible working arrangements agreed directly with the team.

You'll be joining a business scaling fast under new ownership, which means real progression for whoever takes this on early. Two product streams, direct line to the Product Director, and a hand in shaping how the whole product function operates going forward.

A bit more about Flexitricity

Flexitricity connects and optimises flexible energy assets, generation, battery storage and flexible commercial demand, making their capacity available to the electricity system when it's needed most. It's a core part of how Britain balances a grid increasingly built on renewables.

Its acquisition by Drax brings scale and long-term backing without diluting what made Flexitricity work in the first place: speed, technical depth and a close relationship with its customers. This role exists because the business is evolving its product operating model to match that growth.

Denholm's take

What makes this one interesting is the breadth. Most Product Owner roles sit inside one stream. This one spans the operational platform and the customer journey, which means whoever takes it will genuinely understand how the whole business creates value, not just one slice of it.

Combine that with Drax's backing and a business that's clearly serious about maturing its product function, and this is a role with a lot of runway. Get in touch for a confidential conversation.
